MAN CHARGED FOR HEADBUTT NOT LINKED TO ‘YES’ CAMPAIGN
Tasmanians United for Marriage Equality spokesperson Robin Banks said the man charged with headbutting Tony Abbott had no links to the “Yes” campaign other than a badge.
“We don’t know this man and certainly don’t condone his stupid act of violence.”
The alleged attack occurred in Salamanca, Hobart on Thursday (September 21st) afternoon. Mr Abbott claimed the man approached him offering a handshake and headbutted him instead. Mr Abbott later told media he was certain the attack was related to his stance on same sex marriage because the attacker was wearing a Vote Yes badge.
Astro Labe, 38, was charged by police on Friday afternoon. He said the attack had “nothing to do” with same sex marriage, rather it was inspired by personal hatred.
